Boban Samuel, the director, said that he had worked with Reena John, the producer of the film, about ten years ago, when he was directing TV serials. “It's always a risk for the producer to invest his/her money on first time directors. But since Reena knew me personally, she had the confidence to move ahead with the project with me on the director's chair,” said Boban. He also said that it was upto the people to decide whether he had succeeded in bringing any originality to Malayalam cinema through 'Janapriyan'. When asked about future projects, the reply was that he was yet to decide on any.Veteran actor Sreelatha compared the old time heroes with the current crop. .. She noted that heroes of the by gone days used to be more aware about their responsibility to the film's producer. “They used to do the next film for a lesser fee, if one film failed at the box office,” - she recollected. Movies of yester year rarely failed as the theatre was the only option for the public to watch films. Times have changed. Today film makers are forced to shoot at foreign locations, and add technical brilliance to the movies, within the limited budget affordable in Malayalam film industry, to stand up to the stiff competition of TV and other sources.”
When asked if she would like to produce a film, she replied with a firm no. “I have reached this point in life after going through a lot of hardships, and I don't want to risk my financial security by taking extreme steps. So no producing jobs for me.”About Reena John, the producer of 'Janapriyan', Sreelatha said that with Reena, the risk factor involved was comparatively low as she was already in a good position in life, and was well versed with the job of a producer.
The movie Janapriyan has Jayasurya and Bhama playing the lead roles, with music scored by R Gautham. Manoj K Jayan, Jagathy Sreekumar, and Salim Kumar also play major roles in the film.
